August 7, 2010, an extraordinarily serious debris flow hit Zhouqu County, Gansu Province. 2/3 of the county was flooded, over 300 houses were buried and several roads were blocked. At night, August 11, another heavy rain resulted in debris flow again. The life line for rescue was completely obstructed. On August 14, the officers and soldiers from an engineering battalion of Lanzhou military region built HZ mechanical bridges in the Bailong River, Zhouqu County so that rescue equipment and personnel could arrive at the site.
